by one of my kids (who wants to remain anoynmous)
Umaambon-ambon, papatak-patak,
Ang ulan.
Tulad ng batang tahimik,
Nanahimik.
Ang ambon ay naging ulan,
Malakas ang patak.
Tulad ng batang masigla,
Na takbo nang takbo.

When lonely and in a gloomy mood
In the middle of the night I call thee
Calling your name cause to me you have been good
Hoping my blues you would turn to glee
Calling your name that to me you would come
And to me happiness and hope you’ll bring
Calling your name out loud like a distant drum
And for you I asked the robins to sing

He was 26, she was 17 when they got married
Mother, one of 6 sisters and 1 brother, not even a high school graduate
She didn’t like school, they were so poor she was not motivated
She was tomboyish, she didn’t even know what she was going through
When Father, one of 11 brothers and 1 sister (plus a few more half siblings)
A fine budding optometrist, aggressive, brimming with youth
Proposed to her. Mother said “Kasal kung kasal” (“wedding and no other”)
Father found himself proposing marriage through my grandmother
Immediately followed a wedding, by a judge and a priest one month thereafter.
They had 3 children, 1 girl and 2 boys, those were me and my 2 brothers.

tonight i shall be with you
in a world of dreams and magic
oh, wait for me my darling
let’s share the wonders of the night
and forget the world we’ve left
we’ll walk our way to wonderland
full of awe and excitement
the place is ours alone
where pleasure is at its best
nowhere a trace of loneliness

andito ako
hindi nagbabago
hindi mawawala
hwag kang mag-alala
andito ako
kahit minsa’y nalilito
kung ika’y nawawala
hihintayin kita

Travel light this time, but how can I?
Official documents, bulky reports and paraphernalia
Notes, brochures, books, cds, laptop and a camera
How can I leave them, gosh, I’ll be out of work, I won’t even try!
Travel light this time, but how can I?
Clothes and suits for each field trip and meeting day
Shoes, slip ons, swimsuits, gym suits, I carry come what may
All these to match each activity, I can’t deny.

yes, an empty bench
amidst peace and quiet
refreshing thoughts
calming
inviting…
for one so used
to the city’s hustle and bustle
to the fast paced life
high stakes
